unblinking love

I am a winter star, unblinking
through long, cold nights full
of shivering trees
unhiding huddled
beasts restlessly seeking
shelter and mislaid keys.

Unblinking empathy merciless,
a homeless man
claws at a broken window, a bat
falls frozen from a high,
arching roof.

Rain flows in, flushes out
unhidable truth: keep moving
to live, keep beating on doors,
keep hoping the spring sun
will burst forth one day
and drown my light in a river
of green and golden willows.
