clock

Tick-tock, tick-tock
sun long summer
casts one more glancing glow
Tick-tock, tick-tock
old friend departs
wisps of her by my door
Tick-tock, tick-tock
hope to forget
promising hatchling cries
Tick-tock, tick-tock
free hearts pumping
into fresh migrant wings

Tick-tock, tick-tock
time flies away
beyond my sunken path
Tick-tock, tick-tock
fat ripe acorns
from branches sag like drunks
Tick-tock, tick-tock
oak groans heavy
leaf kisses ready soil
Tick-tock, tick-tock
bells call order
on autumn’s happy hour

Tick-tock, tick-tock
sun scorns daytime
now for my dingy months
Tick-tock, tick-tock
thrumming mornings
uneasy echo light
Tick-tock, tick-tock
hail hard evenings
drum upon empty air
Tick-tock, tick-tock
rain laced window
lets darkness slip its lock.

Tick-tock tick-tock I hold each drop
briefly on my fingers
Tick-tock tick-tock these hands can’t stop
as they keep the circle.
