discover and remember

Now is not the time to despair
though relentless winds blow you out
and hard rains rain so hard,
hardest of all on your unsheltered head.

Now is not the time to despair
though your quiet voice can get lost
in regressive echoes
and you can’t see how any way is peace.

Now is not the time to despair
though history maybe bankrupt
and our future is broke,
like refugees stranded on a strange shore.

Now is not the time to despair
yet repetition makes no truth,
just drowns out deniers
until reason leads belief leads people.

Now is not the time to despair.
Heroes come, heroes pass away
into dreams of past hope
and it can feel like all love is in vain.

Now is not the time to despair
though your situation seems set
and cold stones strew the ground,
for your garden still touches the sunlight.

This is the time to discover
that you’re stronger than you’ll admit
and the whole world needs you
now more than anytime I remember.

Note: I wrote and published verses 1,2,6 and 7 as a complete poem in response to the daily prompt: discover. I then added in the middle three verses the following day.

    1. Thanks, I can’t really hope for more than someone feeling my poem speaks to them. I have subsequently added 3 more verses (not something I would usually do but despite having hit publish, the poem felt like it was still half inside me). Hope they don’t spoilt it for you!
